Boudicca’s paintings explore the complexities of identity, culture and belonging in a world of constant movement and change. They offer a space for reflection and meditation. She is inspired by a range of historical and contemporary sources including the Renaissance, mythology, Indian miniature paintings, science fiction, and pop culture.
A recent focus of her work has been responding to faux fur, examining its dual role as both a fetish object and a symbol of power and worship throughout history. This exploration also draws attention to the current degradation of nature, with the synthetic nature of faux fur acting as a metaphor for the destruction of the natural world. The neon colours and vibrant hues riff off 90s rave aesthetic and pop psychedelia, bringing a contemporary edge to traditional themes.
Other works juxtapose aliens and UFOs with ancient Indian mural designs, reflecting her dual British and Indian heritage and upbringing in London. This fusion of elements highlights her interest in cultural hybridity and the ways in which history, myth, and modernity collide.
